BTC To Launch GPRS Roaming For Blackberry
The Bahamas Telecommunications Company limited (BTC) is pleased to announce
that GPRS roaming service for BlackBerry® is available in The Bahamas,
hereby affording persons who travel the freedom and flexibility to utilize
all of the associated features on their BlackBerry® whenever they
are away from home or outside the country.
Mr. Marlon Johnson, BTC's VP of Marketing & Sales, explained, "An
increasing number of mobile professionals are recognizing the productivity
benefits of BlackBerry. We are very pleased that BTC is broadening our
BlackBerry offering not only with the introduction of GPRS Roaming,
but I'm happy to announce the upcoming launch of GSM and Blackberry
on a number of our Family islands including Inagua, The Berry Islands,
Rum Cay and Long Island."
All BTC customers who roam with a BlackBerry® device will now be
able to do much more than just receiving and placing voice calls on
select mobile networks around the world. Through GPRS technology BlackBerry®
users will as they travel around the world, be able to utilize services
like wireless email, instant messaging and internet web browsing. BlackBerry
continues to grow in popularity around the world as demonstrated by
BTC's expansion plans and new roaming agreements. BlackBerry provides
both residents and visitors in The Bahamas with always-on, integrated,
wireless access to email and data," said Mr. Johnson.
The initial introduction of GPRS roaming for BlackBerry® handhelds
occurred earlier this quarter and included roaming partnerships with
the following mobile networks Rogers Wireless, FIDO (Microcell), M3
(Bermuda Mobility), Cingular Wireless (USA), TMobile (USA), Cable &
Wireless (Jamaica), Digicel Group (Jamaica) and TMN Portugal. New carriers
were added this week and ROGERS in Canada; DIGICEL in ARUBA, ANGUILLA,
ANTIGUA & BARBUDA, BARBADOS, BERMUDA, CAYMAN, DOMINICA, GRENADA,
HAITI, JAMAICA, ST. KITTS/NEVIS, ST. LUCIA, ST. VINCENT & GRENADINES
and TURKS & CAICOS); and CINGULAR (The new AT&T) in The United
States.
Mr. Johnson also said that BTC is expected to finalize similar roaming
agreements with other mobile providers such as Vodafone K.K (Japan)
as early as the end of second quarter 2007. So wherever and whenever
BTC BlackBerry® customers travel, whether it is business or pleasure,
they can be assured that with their BlackBerry® comes constant access
to the Internet, which entails access to business files, news or just
a simple chat from anywhere they choose.
